An 1896 Sketching Tour by William Barclay

The slightly random order in which these sketches appear within the Sketch Book of William Barclay does not suggest an actual tour. The neat titles make me wonder if Barclay is perhaps not all that old. I certainly doubt if it is the work of the more famous namesake who was based in Dundee. This Barclay hails from "Ardhallaw, Largs". Still, there are some attractive little drawings, ranging from a small portion of one of General Wade's roads to the Long John Distillery that lies beneath Ben Nevis.

This whisky has a distinguished past. Produced in the Ben Nevis Distillery from 1825 by Long John MacDonald, it was originally a single malt. Now it is a blend, sold mainly in France. This sketch has some evidence of a previous scribble by another hand.
