Scotland and France: the Auld Alliance in the 19th Century

I have added a page titled "France and Scotland" to the website yesterday, and intend to add more sub-pages on this topic. I have lots of images from France, and this first sub-page, "19thC France & Scots" looks at French attitudes in the 19th Century, which seem to be a combination of admiration and incomprehension. They admired the Highlander's bravery in military matters, and they loved the plaid pattern, but could never quite understand the kilt, and seemed pre-occupied with what was worn underneath it. What did emerge as I wrote the page yesterday was just how soon after the Battle of Waterloo tartan became popular, in a stylised form, in France.

There are other aspects of the relationship between France and Scotland I would like to explore, but I'm not sure exactly where it will lead me. For sure, there are some maps I would like to share with you, but beyond that, who knows...?
