In the steps of General Colby, on Corriehabbie.

The day after my trip down Loch Glendhu, I had the opportunity to climb Corriehabbie. This is not the most stunning mountain in the Highlands, but it was where the Ordnance Survey camped for three or four months in 1819, under the command of General Colby. I had written about this in chapter two of my book The Immeasurable Wilds, and was keen to see what evidence if any remained of their encampment. In truth, there was not much to be seen other than a stony track leading up to the trig point, which is surrounded by a stone shelter. But it was good to see where the Survey had been, and enjoy the 360 degree vista. I have written a short account on my website, the page being titled "Colby's Corriehabbie".
