Victorian Tourists, as depicted in Magazines such as The Graphic.

This week I have added to the website images taken from magazines like The Graphic and The Illustrated London News. From the 1860s they filled pages with sketches illustrating a variety of subjects, not least holidays in the Highlands. These are light-hearted in nature, not hugely significant, but they are fun, and tell us now something of Victorian attitudes to travel and Scotland. On one page, I illustrate details from the set, and on a second sub-page you will find photographs of each complete sheet - I was not sure how easy it would be to see the details, but I think you can pick out much of what is going on on each image. The pages are titled "Graphic Tourists" and "Graphic Pages."
