My long-suffering, intrepid Grandmother. Photos of the far north of Scotland.

Today, I am downloading a number of early 20th century photographs, taken by my grandfather. I never knew him - I gather he was a stockbroker, though unfortunately he lost most of his money in the financial crash of the 1930s, which partially explains why there is not much money in my bank account! Clearly in the early years of the 20th century, he was a man of means, and I am pleased to say that he chose to spend some of that money on cars, photography, and trips around Scotland. The evidence for this is a set of old photograph albums, and I am placing some examples from it on a photo album page. It is a fine record of travel at that time, when few people ventured as far north as Ross-shire and Sutherland. My grandmother, who was not particularly adventurous by nature, accompanied my grandfather on some of these trips: above you see her seated in a motorbike sidecar.

The proofs of my book now checked and returned to the Publisher, I can get back to, amongst other tasks, downloading more items relating to the far north of Scotland, on this website. Thank you for visiting the site.
