W. Dougas MacLeod on Painting Mountain Scenes in Oils
I thought that those of you who are serious painters might like to glance at this short article by W. Douglas MacLeod, in which he describes how he sets about painting an oil picture from a colour sketch. The article can be found in the January, 1948 edition of "The Artist" magazine.
MacLeod is described by the National Gallery of Scotland as "one of the most gifted Scottish etchers of his generation." It also notes that he painted in oils, made pastel drawings, and produced a series of Landscapes for British Rail (see my page on "Travel Posters" which shows 3 of the latter). In addition, I was attracted to the article as it has a b&w image of one of his works, titled "River Nover(sic), Bettyhill, Sutherlandshire." It should of course be the River Naver.
